Flow Sports Tech is proud to announce its sponsorship and ongoing support of the KJT Academy.

The KJT Academy is the brainchild of Team GB Olympic Heptathlete and World Champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson. KJT is a household name in the UK due to her hugely successful athletic career. Her most recent success was winning gold at the 2019 World Championship in Doha, which also broke the British Record. Like every Olympic Athlete, the delay in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo was a frustration for KJT, but her sights are firmly set on securing the gold medal in July 2021.

Despite her impressive track record, becoming a world champion wasn’t an easy path for KJT. Growing up in Liverpool and going through the state school system meant there were fewer support options for upcoming athletes to progress their training than in other areas of the UK. Thankfully KJT was accepted into the National Lottery World Class Performance Programme, which paved the road to her success.

Now as a world champion with sponsors from international brands such as Nike and Muller, KJT is eager to give back to the community that supported her. The KJT Academy will support aspiring athletes from the North West of England, aged between 16 and 21 years old. The KJT Academy seeks to provide opportunities to state-schooled athletes from diverse ethnic communities, enabling them to access support that they have previously not had equal access to.

“I think there’s a lot of people and young athletes out there who could be in the Olympic team, could be winning Olympic Medals but just haven’t had the right support along the way… Sport shouldn’t be based on anything but talent. It shouldn’t be based on what you look like, what circumstances you’ve got, how much money you’ve got. For me, sport in its essence is literally who can run the fastest. From that line to that line, let me see if I can beat you.” — Katarina Johnson-Thompson.

As a Liverpool based brand, Flow Sports Tech are excited to back KJT and the KJT academy and make sure that the next generation of athletes receive the same support that KJT received. As a sports recovery brand Flow will provide their high-end percussive massage devices to each athlete in the academy, along with continued support from their in-house sports rehabilitation team. Recovery is a huge, but often overlooked part of an athletes fitness journey. Giving these athletes the tools and education to look after their bodies ensures they can keep performing and progress to the next level.

Everyone at Flow is excited to watch the progress of the academy athletes and hope to see them representing Team GB at the Olympics in the years to come.
